Fun fall activities for parents looking to engage their little ones in meaningful, playful learning
Happy Fall! It is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the crisp air with your children. If it's been too long of a summer and your ideas are tapped out, I've got you. Here are some simple things you can do together that will help support your child's early literacy development and they are loads of fun! I definitely have books and affordable activities that are fun and engaging. Check out my books and TPT site at my page "Me online"
🍂 1. Leaf Letters & Nature Words
Take a walk, collect leaves, and use them to form letters or spell simple fall-themed words like “leaf,” “acorn,” or “red.” Great for talking, writing, and playing!
🍎 2. Apple Picking & Storytelling
After a trip to the orchard, help your child “write” or dictate a story about their adventure. Add drawings or photos to make a mini book together. ***And I have a great song for you plus printable at Teachers Pay Teachers!
🎃 3. Pumpkin Patch Rhymes
Visit a pumpkin patch and create silly rhymes like “I saw a pumpkin on a swing, it tried to fly but lost its wing!” Encourage kids to invent their own verses.
🧤 4. Cozy Read-Aloud Corners
Set up a fall-themed reading nook with blankets, stuffed animals, and seasonal books. Make it a daily ritual to read, sing, and talk about the stories.
🦉 5. Fall Animal Sound Songs
Sing songs about owls, squirrels, and hedgehogs (wink! Yeah, I have a great book on Hedgehogs too!)—then act them out. Add simple props or puppets to boost engagement and vocabulary.
🍁 6. Sensory Bin Story Starters
Fill a bin with fall items (pinecones, mini pumpkins, fabric leaves) and let your child pick a few to inspire a story. You write, they narrate!
Have fun this fall! Soak in the brisk breezes and time together.
