Help Your Child Get Ready to Read

Help Your Child Get Ready to Read! Using the five Early Literacy Practices (read, write, sing, talk, play) with your 0 - 5 yr old child can help give them the tools they need to succeed in school. The new Early Literacy Exploration books contain a section on each practice to help you support your child's learning in a fun , theme-based way.

We are starting the series off with two popular themes:  outer space and farms!   Each book includes an original story to read together, an original song to sing plus ideas for making up your own, fun coloring and writing pages and tips for talking and playing together!

Both books are available in paperback or kindle format, though I recommend the paperback version to take advantage of the coloring and writing pages together!

Best Valentine's Day Books for Kids

When it comes to Valentine's Day for little ones, I focus on "love" books.  Many of the VD books in the library tend to be school aged - kindergarten on up - and talk about exchanging valentines, so that is a bit confusing.  So for storytimes (ages 0-6) I like to keep books simple, focused on loving our families and friends and showing people we care.   Here are a few book suggestions:

1.  Little Blue Truck's Valentine by Alice Schertle  Beep! Beep! Beep! Little Blue Truck is making special deliveries for Valentine's Day, bringing cards to all his friends. Along the way, Little Blue hopes for a valentine too. Will anyone have a card for Blue?

2.  Heart : A Bingo Book by Cassie Veselovsky

3. Llama llama I love you by Anna Dewdney

4.  My Heart is like a Zoo   Depicts in rhyming text how love can be many different things, such as eager as a beaver, steady as a yak, or silly as a seal.

5.  Love Monster by Rachel Bright  A googly-eyed misfit struggles to find a place among the adorable and fluffy residents of Cutesville, an effort that compels him to search high, low, and middle-ish to find a friend who will accept him just the way he is.

6.  The Shape of my Heart by Mark Sperring  From sunrise to bedtime, a mother shows her child the beauty of shapes found in everyday life.

7.  Love Grows Everywhere by Barry Timms  Love grows everywhere . . . from country farm to city square. From desert village, hot and dry, to mountain home where eagles fly. Meet a green-thumbed family whose world is bursting with love. There are kisses from Dad, songs with Grandma, charity from neighbors, and playtime with friends. There's old love, new love, and everything in between!

8.  I Love You Already by Jory John   Bear can't wait to spend a pleasant day by himself. But his persistent next-door neighbor, Duck, wants to take a morning stroll . . . with Bear. He just wants Bear to like him already

Do you have any favorite books to share on Valentine's Day or any time to spread some love?  Put them in the comments

Finding your books in the library

I love seeing my books on display at the library!   Ok, maybe they weren't this way when I first walked in, but don't they look good like that?!

Bunny Bingo Book

I have been hard at work!  And thinking SPRING!  Don't bunnies just scream "spring"?  It's a bit early yet, but I'm looking at a late February launch.  If you're interested in reviewing it early, let me know!
