Does there need to be a picture book about hot dogs? Well, maybe not, but there is now! Ok, there have been some anyway like Mo Willems The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog which is a hilarious book, but I do love all of the pigeon books, in any case - I guess there does need to be MORE hot dog books.
The storytime kiddos requested a hot dog theme and it sounds good coming into summer, so I thought "why not?" but then I ran into the problem of few books to read. Seriously, go look. There aren't many out there. So I decided to write one myself.
I do not have the talent of Mr. Willems, but I gave it my best shot and now we have Five Little Hot Dogs by me. There isn't much drama and not really a story since it is a counting rhyme, but I did include a fun rhyming chant at the end that I also wrote.
In addition, I cut out felt and yarn pieces to create "make your own hot dog" kits for the kids as an activity afterwards. That video is on TikTok and I'll try to share it here. The kits are really fun and will give you an idea of something to do at home or at your library with your kiddos. Looks like I can share the link, so here you go:
